ACRYLIC POLYURETHANE TWO-COMPONENT TOPCOAT

Polyurethane coatings are used today as architectural coatings, product finishes, automotive coatings, and industrial maintenance coatings, making them among the most versatile coating types available.

1. What is the acrylic polyurethane topcoat?

Acrylic polyurethane topcoat is a 2-component mixed gloss paint (Acrylic Polyol and Polyisocyanate)

The topcoat provides excellent weathering properties, i.e., good gloss retention and non-yellowing characteristics upon exposure to sunlight. It is commonly applied to protect wooden furniture or automotive, motorcycles, iron, and steel...

2. Features

Features of acrylic polyurethane coating:

Polyurethane topcoats were introduced to the industrial maintenance and marine market in the mid-1970s as part of a corrosion protection system. The topcoat provides excellent weathering properties, i.e., good gloss retention and non-yellowing characteristics upon exposure to sunlight. When used in a basecoat/clearcoat combination, the weathering performance has been reported to be outstanding.(2,3) They can also be formulated to provide good abrasion resistance, hydrolytic stability and resistance to a variety of solvents and chemicals. Polyurethane topcoats have evolved over the years into a coating technology that can be formulated to give low-VOC coatings, productivity-enhancing coatings,(4) and long-lasting, cost-effective coatings.

  • Can be used for many materials: Wood, plastic, metal, concrete, PRP, stone...
  • Good gloss retention
  • Non-yellowing characteristics upon exposure to sunlight
  • Excellent weathering properties and  ultra-high weathering performance
  • Good abrasion resistance, hydrolytic stability
  • Scratch resistance
  • Suitable for both interior and exterior use.

Advantages:

- Smooth, high gloss retention.

- The adhesion ability is much higher than other common paints.

- Can be used on many different types of surfaces

- Can withstand high humidity and temperature.

- Non-yellowing characteristics upon exposure to sunlight

Disadvantages

In terms of price, it is somewhat higher than ordinary paints on the market. In order to get the product after painting to perfection, it needs experienced workers and must know how to mix to put the best effect.

Acrylic polyurethane topcoat has a higher cost than other coatings on the market while requires experienced painting workers to perform well.

Currently, Mega Chemical Vietnam has been widely developing a set of materials for acrylic polyurethane coating lines for car and motorbike paint with high gloss and aesthetics. Especially resin imported from famous brands in the world such as Eternal, Elegant, Qualimer, etc. Mega is also developing zinc powder (used to prevent rust for boat paint), zinc oxide, TSA resin, TPA, epoxy, with high quality from Korea, USA, Thailand, China. Mega is always a reliable partner and accompanies you to success.
