DBE GREEN SOLVENT

1. Definition

DBE or MDBE is a mixture of three dibasic esters, commonly known as methyl esters, made of dimethyl succinate (succinic acid) CH3OOC (CH 2) 2COOCH3, dimethyl glutarate CH3OOC (CH2) 3COOCH3 and Dimethyl Dicarbonate. CH3OOC ( CH2) 4COOCH3 is a combination of three solvents.

Due to this unique structure, it makes DBE a colorless, non-toxic liquid with a mild aroma. High boiling point, highly biodegradable, eco-friendly solvents are widely used in automotive coatings, color steel coatings, paints, enameled wire, and home appliances, furniture, and other industries.

2. Chemical properties.

DBE products are very stable under normal temperature and humidity. They are characterized by typical ester functional groups, including saponification and hydrolysis reactions. The transesterification reaction is mainly used to convert ester products into useful plasticizers and other polyester products.

With the emphasis on environmental protection and safety for humans and health, more and more laws and regulations are regulated or recommended not to use harmful solvents, such as chlorinated solvents (trichloroethane, methyl chloride, etc.), glycol ethers, ethanol. DBE products are the best substitute for these solvents and DBE products are also able to fulfill the growing demand for VOCs.

4. Features and applications

-  Mild odor, low water content, safe to use, and not a hazardous substance in regulations.

- Excellent solubility with polyurethane resins, acrylic resins, polyester resins, alkyd resins, epoxy resins, and good compatibility with other solvents

- It can increase the fineness and adhesion of the paint and reduce paint film defects

- High boiling point, low evaporation rate can help regulate the evaporation rate of the entire solvent system.

- Increases flexibility, improves gloss and increases mechanical properties of the paint film
