PAINTING ON GALVANIZED STEEL
Currently, materials such as zinc and stainless steel are used in many buildings as well as in housing structures. To ensure long-term durability as well as increase aesthetics, we choose paints to protect them.
However, the paint will not adhere well to galvanized steel surfaces. When using common paint, the surface may reject paint, eventually causing it to peel or shed. Therefore, it is a must to choose the paint systems that are specifically formulated for use on galvanized steel.
1. Definition
Paint for galvanized steel can be a single-component or two-component paint which are capable of bonding and exist on the surface of galvanized steel pipes, hot-dip galvanized steel boxes, galvanized iron, galvanized steel roof panels, stainless steel bar, stainless steel box, etc.
Paint for galvanized steel can adhere directly to the surface of zinc and stainless steel without primer, anti-corrosive paint, or chemical treatment. Also, it should have good adhesion and quick-drying.
Below are three types of paint that can be used for galvanized steel:
- One-component AC paint (Acid cured paint)
- Two-component Epoxy paint (2K Epoxy)
- Two-component polyurethane paint (2K PU paint)
Advantages of paints for galvanized steel
- No need to use primer, anti-corrosive paint, or chemical treatment
- Good weather resistance and UV resistance
- Quick-drying (about 20 minutes)
- Simple construction process and good dry film thickness when applied with a paint sprayer.
