PAINT FOR STEEL STRUCTURE
It is known that iron and steel used for construction works are susceptible to rust when exposed to the external environment. To avoid rusting well as minimizing damage to materials costs, paint has been used for the protection of steel structures.
Paint for steel structure protection made up of many chemicals such as solvent, alkyd resin, and additives to protect the surface from corrosion.
Although it looks like a thin coating, estimated at 1/1000mm, this coating is important for construction. It not only prevents the oxidation of metals in the external environment but also improves the aesthetics of the building. Three common colors used in construction are red, brown, and gray.
In the process of painting, the paint is usually in the form of a paste or liquid so that users can sweep, roll or spray on iron and steel surfaces. The paint is usually included into 2 categories:
Primer: is the layer that direct contact with the metal surface
Coating: is the color layer that upgrades the aesthetics of iron and steel and also the layer got impacts from the external environment.

Metallic paint or anti-corrosion paint is divided into 3 types:
Polythene paint (also known as PU paint) is made of polyurethane resin, additives, pigments, polyamides, and solvents. The advantages of this paint are abrasion resistance, good UV resistance, fast drying, various color choices, and increased longevity of steel structures.
Alkyd paint: is made of alkyd glue, minerals, and additives. Alkyd paint is used to protect steel structures in buildings such as office buildings, schools, or trains. The advantages of Alkyd paints are fast-drying, easy to apply, good adhesion, and corrosion-resistant under normal conditions.
Epoxy paint: is commonly used to protect steel structures for ships, oil tanks, or oil tankers to avoid corrosion on the metal surface. Epoxy paint includes two components: primers and curing agents, hence, it can be used in highly oxidizing environments such as water and oil. Epoxy paint is easy to apply and works on both new and old metals.
