According to the US International Trade Commission, in the first 6 months of 2021, the US imported 912,350 tons of rubber, worth 1.81 billion USD, up 3.6% in volume and 16.5% in value over the same period in 2020.

RUBBER IMPORT TO USA INCREASED BY OVER 81% 

According to the US International Trade Commission, in the first 6 months of 2021, the US imported 912,350 tons of rubber (HS code 4001, 4002, 4003, 4005), worth 1.81 billion USD, up 3.6% in volume and 16.5% in value over the same period in 2020.

In which,  Indonesia, Thailand,  Canada, Korea, and the Coast of Ivory are the 5 biggest rubber suppliers to the US.

In the first 6 months of 2021, Vietnam is the 11th largest rubber supplier to the US with 21,010 tons, worth 37.14 million USD, up 54.4% in volume and 81.8% in value compared to that of the US in the same period in 2020.

Vietnam's rubber market share in total rubber imports from the US accounted for 2.3% in the first 6 months of 2021, up from 1.6% in the first 6 months of 2020.

According to a report by Freedonia Focus Reports, the demand for rubber in the US is forecasted to grow by nearly 1.1%/year until 2023, due to the increasing demand for rubber products. Increased demand along with climate change and supply chain disruptions due to the impact of the COVID-19 epidemic are issues that are of concern to the US rubber tire and rubber industry at the moment.

The largest rubber supplying markets for the USA in the first 6 months of 2021

In the first 6 months of 2021, the US imported 444,950 tons of natural rubber (HS code: 4001), worth $789.22 million, down 3.5% in volume, but up 13.6% in value compared to the same period in 2020.

Indonesia, Thailand, Ivory Coast, Vietnam, and Liberia are the 5 markets that supply the most natural rubber to the USA  in the first 6 months of 2021.

In the first 6 months of 2021, Vietnam is the 4th largest supplier of natural rubber to the US, with 20,950 tons, worth 36.93 million USD, up 54.2% in volume and 82.3% in value compared to the same period in 2020.

Vietnam's natural rubber market share in the total import volume of the US  accounted for 4.7% in the first 6 months of 2021, up from 2.9% in the first 6 months of 2020.

In addition, the US imported 333,640 tons of synthetic rubber (HS code: 4002), worth US$683.93 million, up 7.9% in volume and 9.8% in value over the same period in 2020.

South Korea, Japan, Germany,  Mexico, and Russia are the 5 biggest suppliers of synthetic rubber to the USA  in the first 6 months of 2021.

The structure of the synthetic rubber supply market for the USA  in the first 6 months of 2021 has changed when Japan's synthetic rubber market share in total imports of the US  increases; while the market share of Germany, Korea,  Mexico, Russia decreased. Vietnam's synthetic rubber only accounts for 0.02% of the total amount of synthetic rubber imported into the US.
