THAILAND BECAME THE BIGGEST RUBBER EXPORTER IN THE WORLD

Alongkorn Ponlaboot, an adviser to the Thai Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives, said on August 12 that Thailand topped the list of rubber exporting countries in the first half of this year, with a total export volume of 2.19 million tons worth 70.5 billion baht (nearly $2 billion).

Mr. Alongkorn Ponlaboot cited data from the Rubber Authority of Thailand (RAT) as saying that Thailand's total natural rubber exports this year are expected to reach 4.27 million tons, up 3.41% from last year.

In the first half of this year, Thailand's export value of natural rubber and rubber products was 167.2 billion baht. According to Mr. Alongkorn, China is the largest market for Thai rubber and rubber products, accounting for nearly half (49%) of exports.

From January to June 2022, China imported 1.42 million tons of natural and synthetic rubber from Thailand, an increase of 5.37% over last year.

Malaysia ranks second in the list of rubber importers from Thailand with 10%, followed by the US (7%), Japan (6%), and South Korea (4%).

The Rubber Authority of Thailand estimates that the country's rubber output this year will total 4.79 million tons, up 0.88% from last year.
