THE PRICE OF A CHEMICAL INCREASE MORE THAN 30% IN 10 DAYS

Hydrochloric acid, a substance used in the production of some organic compounds to make PVC, has fluctuated in price in China recently. The price of this commodity on March 15 was 341 yuan/ton ($53.6/ton), up 30.6% compared to March 5. Since the beginning of this year, the price of this acid has increased by more than 6%. 

One of the other important uses of hydrochloric acid is to remove rust from steel before the steel is put to use for other purposes such as rolling, electroplating, and another engineering.

Another chemical that has also increased in price recently is sulfuric acid - a chemical used to produce fertilizers, pesticides, synthetic detergents, chemical fibers, plastics, and paints. The price of this commodity on 916.7 yuan/ton (US$144 / ton), up 3.4% compared to the previous day. Since the beginning of the year, prices are 41% higher.

Chloroform, which is used in the manufacture of dyes and pesticides, has also increased in price. On March 15, the price of this substance was 5,475 yuan/ton ($860/ton), an increase of 1.2% compared to March 14. Since the beginning of the year, the price of this substance has increased by 23%.

The price of yellow phosphorus, a raw material in fertilizers - animal feed, on March 15 was at 33,750 yuan/ton ($5,308/ton), which remained the same as on March 14. Previously, in October 2021, the price of this commodity in China increased to 52,900 yuan/ton (US$ 8,370 / ton), the highest price ever. According to experts, the price increase is due to the severe shortage of energy in the domestic market and environmental problems. 

After reaching the peak, phosphorus prices fell to around 31,740 yuan per tonne ($5,027 per tonne) in early January and stayed remaining for more than a month before rising again, then falling to the current level.

Urea's price remained unchanged compared to March 14 and was at 2,932 yuan/ton ($461/ton). Since the beginning of this year, urea prices have increased by 15%.
