Zinc Oxide (ZnO) is a white powder that is insoluble in water. Although found in nature, most ZnO used in commercials is synthetic. Commonly used in the treatment of skin irritation and medical ointment, but now, its application has widened to rubber, cosmetics, glass and ceramics, agriculture, and other chemical numbers.

The properties of zinc oxide:

- Vulcanization of rubber:

ZnO is the most effective activator to speed up rubber vulcanization when combined with stearic acid.

- Gel-forming rubber:

Zinc Oxide is particularly effective in gel-forming (solidifying by freezing) foam. Therefore, it makes it stable during the gelation of the foam when latex foam rubber products are manufactured.

- Heat stability:

Zinc oxide has very high stability (resistance) to heat. Therefore, it is mainly used to manufacture tires so that the tire is safe even at high temperatures due to the high speed.

- Light stability:

Zinc Oxide has excellent UV absorption. So when it is used with rubber tires, it gives them more stability and is more resistant to the destructive UV rays of sunlight. Zinc oxide is used especially with colored rubber because it requires higher stability.
