1. Working principle and role of lubricant

- Lubricants in rubber and plastic polymer blends are a highly mobile component when machining, they act as a flexible buffer between the molecules and between the polymer and the device wall to reduce friction. for the system.

- In the process of processing polymer materials such as rubber and plastic, friction arises from 2 sources:

Friction between polymer and polymer (i.e. between molecules) this friction is called internal friction.

Friction between polymer and device wall, friction between polymer and screw surface, mold surface... These frictions are called external friction.

2. Classify

Based on the role and nature of operation of the lubricant, we classify lubricants into 2 types: internal lubrication and external lubrication.

Internal Lubricant: This is a substance with a high affinity for the polymer chain, to reduce internal friction, the lubricant must have a large enough affinity for the polymer molecule, to be able to penetrate the polymer structure. They form a cushion between the polymer molecules that help them slide more smoothly. By this nature, they are polymer soluble and have the same characteristics as plasticizers for polymers.

External Lubricant:  External lubricants can enter the gap between polymer and metal surface, to reduce external friction, the external lubricants must be able to exit the polymer surface and polymer flow smoothly. fast. At the same time, they bond and cover the metal surface to form a cushion to reduce friction.
