WHAT IS WATER-BASED PAINT?
Water-based paint is a type of paint that uses water as the dispersion medium or main solvent. Film-forming ingredients are usually acrylic resins, styrene acrylic, water-dispersible polyurethane (PUD) or water-based epoxy depending on the intended use.
After application, the water evaporates and the plastic particles bond together to form a durable paint film on the surface of the material. If you need a paint layer with high gloss, smooth surface and application on iron doors, railings, machinery or metal structures under normal environmental conditions, Alkyd paint is still an effective and affordable solution.
For industrial projects with very high anti-corrosion requirements, the selection should be based on the entire paint system (primer, intermediate paint and topcoat) instead of just comparing between Alkyd and water-based paint.
