ZINC PHOSPHATE AND ITS CORROSION RESISTANCE

Zinc phosphate (Zn3 (PO4) 2) is an inorganic compound used as a corrosion-resistant coating on metal surfaces either as part of the electroplating process or as a primer pigment. By 2006 it had become the most commonly used corrosion inhibitor.

Nature

Natural forms of zinc phosphate include minerals hopeite and parahopeite. A somewhat similar mineral is natural hydrous zinc phosphate called tarbuttite, Zn2(PO4)(OH). Both are known from oxidation zones of Zn ore beds and were formed through oxidation of sphalerite by the presence of phosphate-rich solutions. The anhydrous form has not yet been found naturally.

Application

Zinc phosphate is used in anti-rust paint, metal surface treatment, and plating.

Zinc phosphate is commonly used in various coating materials due to its anti-corrosion such as phenolic paints, epoxy paints, acrylic paints, paint powders, and water-soluble resin paint in ship production, construction, automobiles, industrial machinery, metal lighting, home appliances, and metal food containers.

Besides, Zn3 (PO4) 2-Zinc Phosphate is also part of the electroplating process.

Zinc phosphate is substituted for chrome and lead compounds due to their toxicity, hence, Zinc Phosphate has become the most common corrosion inhibitor.

Above are some basic information about Zinc Phosphate, at present MEGA Vietnam supplies zinc phosphate from famous manufacturers.
