Silane Si-17 is a sulfur-containing coupling agent (Sulfur Silane Coupling Agent), designed to create a chemical bridge between inorganic fillers such as silica and the polymer chain of rubber. Thanks to this mechanism, Si-17 helps improve reinforcement efficiency, improve mechanical properties and optimize the performance of many technical rubber products.

WHY DOES RUBBER NEED SILANE SI-17 BINDING AGENT?

In many modern rubber formulations, especially systems using silica as a filler, the compatibility between silica and rubber is often not high. Silica has a polar surface while natural rubber (NR), styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR) or butadiene rubber (BR) are hydrophobic, making it difficult for silica particles to disperse evenly and bond with the rubber matrix.

Silane Si-17 acts as a "bridge" between the two material phases. One of the biggest benefits of Silane Si-17 is enhancing the mechanical strength of rubber products. When silica is uniformly dispersed and tightly bonded to the polymer matrix, the material has better tensile, tear and abrasion resistance, while reducing the risk of cracking during use.

Besides, Si-17 It also helps reduce heat generation when rubber is subjected to repeated loads. This is especially important for tires, conveyor belts, belts and rubber parts working in dynamic conditions, because excessive heat generation can reduce the life and performance of the product.

Compared to just adding silica without using a binding agent, Silane Si-17 helps to more effectively exploit the reinforcing ability of the filler. As a result, rubber products achieve higher tensile strength, abrasion resistance, elasticity and mechanical stability.

Another advantage is that Silane Si-17 can replace or be compatible with many other sulfur-containing silane systems in suitable technical applications. This gives manufacturers more flexibility when optimizing ingredient formulations, while meeting increasing requirements for performance and production costs.

For Silane Si-17 to maximize effectiveness, it is necessary to use the correct dosage according to the mixing formula and ensure the mixing process reaches appropriate temperature conditions so that the reaction with the silica surface can take place effectively. At the same time, the product should be stored in a dry, cool place and avoid exposure to moisture, because alkoxy groups in silane can be hydrolyzed if stored under improper conditions.
